Bloom and Grow: Part I
Happy Labor Day!
For this post, I will be splitting it up into two different parts. Part I introduces one of my favorite watercolor techniques using only a Ziploc bag to create complexly blended backgrounds. Part II introduces a new floral wreath pattern and how the piece came together.
Materials Needed:
1. Watercolor Paper (I use 300 g., 9 in. x 12 in.)
2. Tombow Dual Brush Pens
3. Watercolor Brush (Aquash Water Brush or Jane Davenport)
4. Microtip Pen (Zig or Micron)
5. Pentel Sign Brush Pen
6. Ziplog bag (small sandwich size)
Step One: Outline a circle with your choice of Tombow Dual Brush Pen color. Begin adding water with your watercolor brush to soften the edges of the circle.
Step Two: Create small dots of water randomly dispersed around the inside of the circle. Take your Tombow Dual Brush pen colors and lightly tap the brush tip in the water.
Step Three: Take your Ziploc bag and press down on all corners. You will need to slide the bag around the circle to fully blend the colors.
Step Four: You will most likely have pools of water or odd combinations of colors as depicted below. Go ahead and add another color to the desired area and use the Ziploc bag to blend.
Step Five: Let the background completely dry before moving on to the next few steps.
A technique known as stretching helps prevent your paper from beveling. See link here for further instructions: https://www.jetpens.com/blog/introduction-to-watercolor-techniques/pt/914#BASIC-WATERCOLOR-TECHNIQUES.
Make sure to check back in tomorrow for the last few steps!
